Christ Exalted by Hanserd Knollys

Taking note of our great need for Christ should move us to prize Him above all things… For Christ is our life, our light, our bread, our water, our milk, and our wine. He is our father, our husband, our brother, our friend, our King, our Priest, and our Prophet. He is our justification, sanctification, and redemption. He is our peace. He is our all.

—Hanserd Knollys, Christ Exalted

Born 1598, Knollys was first converted by puritan preaching during his studies at Cambridge at the age of 37. After his ordination he left the Church of England for his Baptist convictions and endured many hardships. He was once even stoned out of the pulpit! His long life (died 1691, age 92) bridged eras of persecution and toleration, making him a living witness to God’s providence. He is of the few privileged with signing both the first (1644) and second (1689) London Baptist Confessions.
